2025 Special Recognition Award - Norwescap

We are proud to honor an organization that has been a cornerstone of empowerment and resilience in our community for six decades. It is with great pride that we present a Special Recognition Award to Norwescap, commemorating their 60th Anniversary of unwavering service and commitment to New Jersey's families.

Founded in 1965 amidst President Lyndon B. Johnson’s “War on Poverty” and inspired by the advocacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Norwescap has steadfastly pursued its mission: to create opportunities that improve the lives of low-income individuals and families. Their comprehensive programs span education, employment, financial empowerment, health and nutrition, housing, and volunteerism, impacting over 30,000 individuals annually .

Norwescap's initiatives are as diverse as they are impactful:

  • Education & Employment: Offering adult education, job training, and career assistance to help individuals secure meaningful employment .
  • Financial Empowerment: Providing financial coaching, tax preparation assistance, and credit counseling to foster financial stability .
  • Health & Nutrition: Operating a Food Bank that supports over 100 pantries, and offering programs like WIC and SNAP to combat food insecurity .
  • Housing Support: Assisting with rental and foreclosure counseling, and offering programs to prevent homelessness .
  • Volunteerism: Encouraging community engagement through various volunteer opportunities .

In alignment with their core values of innovation, community, care, empowerment, and inclusivity, Norwescap has taken a bold stance against systemic inequalities through their Anti-Racism Resolution. This initiative includes anti-racism training for staff and volunteers, enhancing diversity in leadership, and advocating for policies that promote racial equity.

As Norwescap celebrates this milestone, they continue to look forward, embracing technology and innovation to bridge the digital divide, ensuring that no family is left behind in this digital age.

Please join us in applauding Norwescap for their 60 years of dedicated service and for being a beacon of hope and support in our community.
